Yesterday we had our first family beach day here in NC, and it was absolutely packed! There was construction so everyone was crammed onto this stretch of beach. We still had fun, though, and the drive is beautiful. McKenzie had a blast digging holes, looking for shells, and playing with Daddy. Bennett loved feeling the sand in his toes and napping in his stroller. Jon and I had so much fun just watching them have fun.
After we left the beach, the kiddos passed out right away and we drove through Wilmington. It’s such a cute little town and it reminds us so much of Madison. Gorgeous old homes, and tons of history. It’s almost like a mix of California beach style and Southern living. Anyway, it was a great day and hopefully we’ll be back a lot this summer!
In other news, Bennett has slept the past two nights in his crib (naps too)! Woo! We’d had enough and decided he needs to learn self soothe. I’ll nurse him, or put him down when he’s making his “tired cry,” and then he fusses for about 5 minutes then passes out on his tummy. He sleeps SO much better on his tummy. And we all get better sleep! I’m excited for this new routine. He gobbles up solids now, too. His faves are chicken, eggs, avocado, strawberries, Clementines, and corn. Oddly enough, I’ve discovered that cutting food with a kitchen scissors is a life-saver! It’s seriously so much less tedious than using a knife and chopping stuff—I’d never thought of it until Jon did it once (and I looked at him like he was nuts). But it’s much easier! Bennett’s also crawling around like a maniac. He tries to climb up my leg, and follows me everywhere. We’ve had a few scares with putting some of McKenzie’s little toys in his mouth, or other odds & ends he finds on the floor (one was a plastic tag connector). I’ve had to do the “pinky finger swipe” more than once now to stop him from choking.
Also, McKenzie got the book “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” (book 1) for Christmas, which she reads with Daddy every night—and they’re almost done! So I ordered the blu-ray set off Amazon and it should be here soon. She’s very excited to see the movie, I think it will make more sense to her and she’ll want to read them even more. ♥
