On Thursday we had the consultation with the Ear, Nose, Throat specialist. They put a camera scope down his nose and checked the anatomy of his vocal chords. Everything looked great, which means the “crowing sounds” while he eats are something that he should outgrow. But the docs are also looking for other possible causes for the noise. They might do a swallow study on Monday if it’s still going on by then. They think it could possibly be acid reflux, too, in which case they might prescribe him antacids. He’s basically ready to come home aside from the eating issues, so I think that’s why they’re really trying to figure it out. He’s past his birth weight now, up to 5lbs 12oz. And he lost his umbilical cord on Thursday. So sad! I cried when McKenzie’s little stump fell off (haha), because it was the last part of me attached to her. He’s been so awake & alert lately. I just love that little face!
As for me, I’m doing well too. I guess I haven’t really talked about how his birth went for me. I had a normal hospital stay. After they broke my water (which was apparently bulging out!) Bennett was born perfect and screaming within 15 minutes. My epidural was great, but not nearly as good as the one I had with McKenzie. I felt tons of pressure. I didn’t tear or anything, and I didn’t need any stitches. Jon cut the cord. I didn’t get to see the baby for 2 hours, or hold him for 12. That was pretty horrible, so it definitely wasn’t all sunshine & rainbows. Now, I just want to spend every second with him. We can hold him whenever we want and just take him out of his crib. I try to spend the majority of my days there, and we have amazing friends and family who have stepped up to watch McKenzie. The only remotely silver lining to all of this (besides the beautiful little boy, of course), is that I am now -5lbs below pre-pregnancy weight, less than 2 weeks out. [Insert happy dance here.] I am a beast with the breast milk, too. The nurses have said my supply is “amazing,” so that’s nice. =) Anyway, gotta get ready to go back to the hospital, McKenzie’s coming with today. Have a great weekend, y’all.
