28½ Week “Bumpdate”

How far along are you? 28 weeks (7 months) How did this happen?!

How big is the baby? About the size of a head of cauliflower. He was already 3.3lbs at his growth scan this week! And she said his little feet are 2 inches long…awwwww.

Weight Gain? Up to 15 lbs now. Blech. I look icky. And I have an ugly bump. Boooooo. I thought boys were supposed to carry low?!

Maternity clothes? Hellz yes. And I pretty much wear the same clothes all the time. Joy!

Stretch marks? Nothing new, thank god.

Sleep: I literally have insomnia. I can’t fall asleep until 1-ish. Then I wake up from 3-4. Then I fall back asleep until about 8. But 6 hours/night is NOT enough. Last night I got 4 hours…I was wide awake at 4:30 and I went to bed at 1. I’m so tired I want to cry.

Best moment this week? I had a pretty good week! Here are my fave moments:

  • The Plasmapheresis is working, so I’m infinitely less itchy (I still have bouts here & there). But sadly, my Bile Acid levels are still severe. =(
  • My liver specialist is recommending induction any time after 32 weeks to avoid the risk of stillbirth. I think that’s WAY too early, but I might consider 34 depending what my Bile Acid levels (which are what cause stillbirth) are up to. If they’re high, it might be a good idea. But I’d (ideally) like to wait until the currently scheduled 36-week mark. Either way, it’s less than 2 months away! That’s crazy. I sorta-kinda freaked out when I realized that. But I could go into spontaneous labor early too. We shall see.
  • I got to see Baby Boy again during his growth scan! He’s currently 3.3lbs already (65%), his head circumference is 27cm (71%), and his feet are 2 inches long. Awwww! And look, he’s a little thumb-sucker! (See bottom pic.)
  • Jon graduates Basic Training tomorrow! I desperately wish I could be there, but I cancelled the trip. My doc said no more travel.

Movement? Starting to be WAY more consistent! I get to start kick-counts now. Woooo. And the movements are definitely bigger.

Food cravings? I made myself a 2lb Beef Wellington (the meat alone was $45…). It. Was. Amazing. I ate it all by myself over the course of the week. I definitely haven’t been getting enough protein lately, so this made up for it. And if you’ve never had it, it’s SO good! Definitely more of an “occasion” meal, due to the pricey meat, but oh so tasty. It’s a very involved recipe, but not difficult. Mmmmm.

Food aversions? Nothing lately.

Labor signs? Nope. Braxton Hicks are getting more regular.

Gender? BOY! And at they ultrasound, they said his testicles were descended. Awww.

Symptoms? Cholestasis of Pregnancy, Carpal Tunnel of Pregnancy, insomnia, and my fingers feel like sausages. You can kinda tell from the pic that they’re really swollen. It’s weird.

Belly button in or out? In. It never came out with McKenzie, just went flat.

Wedding rings on or off? Off now. I wear them as a necklace.

Happy or moody? Pretty happy.

What I miss: Sleep, not itching, and my husband. *sigh*

What I am looking forward to: Talking to Jon more now that he’s done with Basic! It will be more like a 9-5 job, so we can talk on nights and weekends…I’m such a spoiled wife. Ha. And he might get to visit next week? But for other good news, we will probably be living together (aka moving) as early as October! Most likely to North Carolina.

I’m sorry, momma – it sounds like this week has been rough :/ Your bump is ADORABLE, by the way. Will Jon be home for the birth?

Carin - June 27, 2013 - 1:22 pm

I would have to disagree with your statement above about you looking “gross”. You look AMAZING! We are so hard on ourselves. I know, because I am too. Your bump is so cute!

I am happy to hear you get to talk to your hubby more regularly coming up soon. Take care of yourself.

I think your bump is way cute! You are carrying quite high – I didn’t notice it before. Did you carry there with McKenzie also?
I hope your sleep gets better. Are you still taking Benadryl?
Jon does look SO young and so skinny! You’ll have to put some meat back on that boy when he gets home…maybe with your Beef Wellington :)

Nicole! I’m so glad the plasmapheresis is working for the itching…did your BA’s decrease at all?! I feel so bad that the cholestasis is so out of control. I really hope somehow the BA’s go down or stabilize so that you can make it to 36 weeks. Thinking of you daily!!!

Nicole | Life So Lovely - June 27, 2013 - 5:15 pm

Thanks so much!My BA’s aren’t down at all…at least not after a week. I suppose that’s why I have it weekly. They drew blood before my last procedure Monday and the levels were still 50. Hope you’re getting some sleep with sweet little Samuel!

Nicole | Life So Lovely - June 27, 2013 - 5:18 pm

Thanks Angie. =) And yep, with McKenzie the bump was in exactly the same place! It’s funny, because everyone’s like “you don’t show because you’re tall.” I’m all legs! I think that’s why it’s high? Who knows. And nope, I haven’t taken the Benadryl. It hasn’t helped lately. And I completely agree, I definitely need to fatten that boy up! He seriously doesn’t look 29 either.

Nicole | Life So Lovely - June 27, 2013 - 5:19 pm

Awww, well thanks Carin! You’re too sweet, as usual. =) We’re definitely hard on ourselves—so many body-changes! Hope you’re well, and your little princess isn’t giving you too much trouble in there!

It was actually a good week! Comparatively speaking. I should mention that in a future post, but yes, he should be able to come home for the birth, especially if it’s a planned induction! It’s called “convalescent leave” or something. I think it’s mostly because I’m high-risk, but I’ll take what I can get!
